Language Arts
All students should have received their Five Paragraph Historical Fiction essay back. It would be a great idea to check with your student/parent about the grade. Some students did not get the grade they were expecting. In 7th grade we move to a more academic type of writing. Mastering these skills can be challenging. Informational writing is much more demanding and needs to follow a format which is not enjoyed by all.

Students are welcome and
encouraged to rework her paper for credit. I gave
feedback (probably too much!) on each paper and on the rubric.
To help, I have video lessons and help sheets on the right-hand side of
this blog. I would be happy to help any
student during lunch, advisory or in homework club (Tuesday and Thursday
2:30-3:30). They will need their own ride home.
Please encourage your student/yourself to seek help if help is needed. ALL students are welcome and encouraged to check with me to see if they are on the right track or to ask questions. Students need to focus on content NOT grammar and punctuation that does not interfere with the reader being able to understand their piece of writing. I welcome email questions at any time! I check my email on the weekends and most weekday evenings.
Meanwhile, the learning
continues. We are hard at work on our Silly Persuasive Essays. Rough drafts are due Friday. The Silly Persuasive paper follows the same format as the historical fiction essays, so the help sheets
and video lessons may be used for this essay as well.
The packet of worksheets for Word Study 3.2 are due on Friday and
there will be a test on the material on Friday as well.
Reading Skills
We continue to work on increasing comprehension. Student are asked to write short summaries after they read. This practice increases comprehension and provides notes that can be used if they become lost/confused while reading.
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of reading 30 minutes EACH night. Reading practice is the key to increased comprehension. Practice makes perfect!
