Reading Goals

An Explanation of Reading Goals:
All students need to read for 150 minutes a week. Their reading rate is used to determine their weekly goal.
How to Calculate a Reading Goal in 3 Easy Steps
1.     Read for 10 minutes
2.     Count the number of pages you read.
That number is your reading rate
3.     Multiply your reading rate by 15 (150 minutes)
The result is your reading goal!
EXAMPLE:
1.      Student X’s reading rate (the # of pages they read in 10 minutes) is 12
Multiply 12 (pages) x 15 (150 minutes) = 180 pages need to be read this week.
Note: the student needs to read 180 pages, not up to page 180.

2.     Student Y reads 8 pages in 10 minutes (their reading rate).
Multiply 8 (pages) x 15 (150 minutes) = 120 pages need to be read this week.

Each Friday students are asked to record what page they are on in their current book. I look at last week’s page number to see if they have met their goal. Reading goals are worth 15 points. If a goal is not met, partial points are given.
