Welcome to Week Three! September 19 - 23

There is a saying, The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. (Robert Burns). That would perfectly describe last week! We were not able to finish all of last week's plans.  Part way into the week, I decided that students needed more background information. So, if this week's plans look a bit familiar in spots, you have a good memory!

Monday -  
  • Word Study list Word Study 1.2  All the word study lists can be found on the right hand side of this post. Look for the heading, "Word Study," click on "trimester 1," and the whole trimester's worth of lists will appear. (As an added bonus, the answers will be there too!) 
  • Review the group-work results. Thursday we had a robust discussion on what behavior contribute to (and take away from) productive group work. If time allows, we will also develop a set of norms for group-work and agree as to how we will handle poor choices during group time.
Tuesday

  • Quick Write - What makes a better pet, cats or dogs?
  • Begin our class contract.
  • Finish Monday's lesson
Wednesday/Thursday
  • Quick Write - What are your strengths and weakness when working in a group?
  • Teacher introduce: restate and clarify 
  • Group work - student practice working collaboratively together on step one of Active Listening: restate and clarify activity. Work will be done in 2 person and 4 person groups.
  • Whole class share
Friday  -  
  • Word Study 1.2 test
  • Quick write = What are the step that need to be taken when there is disruptive behavior during group work?
  • Silent Reading = note taking for comprehension and focus
