FYI: This week we are testing Vocabulary Lesson 6. Lists and Quizlets are to the right of this entry.

An explanation of reading goals:
Until the end of the trimester (when the goals will rise) all students need to read for 90 minutes a week. Their reading rate is used to determine the goal for the week.
Students determine their reading goal by doing the following:
·       Count the number pages read in 10 minutes. That’s their reading rate. (must be done each time a new book is started)
·       Multiply the reading rate by 9. That is the number of pages that need to be read each week.

EXAMPLE:
1.    If student X reads 12 pages in 10 minutes (their reading rate)
Multiply 12 (pages) x 9 (90 minutes) = 108 pages.

2.    Student Y reads 8 pages in 10 minutes (their reading rate).
Multiply 8 (pages) x 9 (90 minutes) = 72 pages

Each Friday students are asked to record what page they are on in their current book. I look at last week’s page number to see if they have met their goal. Reading goals are worth 15 points. If a goal is not met, they earn less or no points.
