Welcome to 7th grade Language Arts! It is hard to believe but it is time to begin the new year!
I am looking forward to a fun and productive year.In order to prepare for the new school year, it would be helpful if your student had the following supplies:
- Binder with dividers
- Blue/black and red pens (or really any color in addition to blue/black)
- Pencils
- 2 spiral notebooks
- Lined paper
- A smiling face : )
This year we will be participating in the AR program. Many of you are familiar with this program, if you are not, be sure to ask your student to tell you all about it in the weeks to come.
Vocabulary For Success Lists are handed out (and posted on the right-hand side of this blog), every other Monday; I review the words on the Monday they are handed out. The test is on Friday. If a student doesn’t pass the test, he/she may retake it for up to a 70% .
HINT!
If you look on the right-hand side of this blog, you will see a folder
named "Vocab for Success", inside that folder are word study tests for
the whole year!
Help and Retest Times:
- Monday or Wednesday during lunch and seminar
(get permission from your teacher before coming to my room) - Tuesday and Thursday during Homework Club (it is best to let me know you are coming, BUT if you didn't, you are still welcome!)
- Journal writing
- Vocabulary strategies
- Grammar activities
- In addition to reading for pleasure, we will be exploring:
- Narrative and informational reading
- Writing, writing, writing!
- Fictional narratives
- Informational papers which persuade (essay and short answer) and inform (research paper)
- Journal entries
- Plan, practice and deliver an informational speech
- Recite a Slam poem
- Share our daily writings
- If done by hand, the paper should be:
- · Written on loose leaf (normal lined paper)
- In blue or black ink
- Neatly written
- Size 12 font
- Double spaced (please be kind to my old eyes!)
- Times New Roman font
