We have indeed begun Poetry. Yesterday we took a pretest on the concepts that will be covered in our unit. The test is use to help guide my instruction. It was graded, but for informational purposes only. No grade will be recorded.
On Wednesday we looked over the vocabulary portion of the test. Correct answers were highlighted and students were asked to complete vocabulary sheets on any terms they did not know. These terms will be tested again at the end of the unit for a recorded grade.
Thursday we will be discussing the terms that have to do with the author's craft. ( The term Literary Devices refers to specific tools of language that can appear in any genre of writing. ) These include: simile, metaphor, alliteration, personification, imagery, and exaggeration.
A blank vocabulary sheet and an example of how to fill one out are under the "Poetry" heading on the righr hand side of this blog. I will be publishing a list of words and definitions later this week.
